Toronto Police Capture Knife-Wielding Robber: A Citywide Manhunt (2026)

A series of terrifying knife-point robberies across Toronto has led to an arrest, bringing a sense of relief to the community. Toronto police have apprehended a 24-year-old man in connection with a string of incidents that occurred late last year and into the beginning of this year. These events primarily targeted businesses along Steeles Avenue, spanning both the east and west sides of the city.

The robberies, according to authorities, unfolded with a consistent pattern. The suspect allegedly entered stores masked, approached checkout counters, and either indicated he had a knife or produced one, demanding cash before making his escape. In one instance, the suspect reportedly fled without any money.

Here's a breakdown of the locations and dates, as reported by the Toronto Police:

  • Steeles Avenue East and Leslie Street: December 23 and January 7
  • Steeles Avenue East and Pharmacy Avenue: December 27
  • Steeles Avenue West and Weston Road: December 28
  • Steeles Avenue West and Bathurst Street: December 30

Earlier this week, the Hold Up Squad, supported by multiple divisions, successfully located and arrested the suspect. A search warrant was executed, leading to the recovery of the knife and clothing believed to have been used in the robberies.

But here's where it gets controversial... The suspect, 24-year-old Mohamed Ismail of Toronto, now faces serious charges. These include:

  • Five counts of robbery with an offensive weapon
  • Four counts of disguise with intent
  • Four counts of weapons dangerous
  • Assault with a weapon

It's important to remember that these are allegations, and none of the charges have been proven in court. The suspect was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on January 16.

And this is the part most people miss... The police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. This highlights the importance of community involvement in solving crimes and ensuring public safety.

What do you think? Do you believe the charges are appropriate, or should there be more or less severe penalties? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
